Captain(IN) Vikrant Kishore was commissioned on 08 Aug 1996 in the Education Branch of Indian Navy. He is a METOC specialist and have done Advanced MET course from IMD, Pune and Advanced Oceanography course followed by an M.Phil in Advanced Oceanography from CUSAT. He further got specialized in SAT-MET and Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) techniques from NCMRWF (Noida). He served the Navy being in active METOC(Met/Oceanography) billets (operational, staff and training), since 1999. During his various operational (onboard/ashore) postings, he had undertaken various Meteorological appreciations cum analysis incorporating (Synoptic, Satellite, NWP and Radar) Met-Products with regards to severe and inclement weather conditions over coastal Karnataka, Goa/EC Arabian Sea, BoB, Andaman Sea, South China Sea and Russian region and regions/sea associated with the maiden passage of VKD including a published paper on “Poor visibility conditions over Delhi, view passage of Western Disturbances (WDs)”. The observations and outcomes of these analysis/studies were prolifically applied over respective areas/regions, as a thumb rule for day-today short and medium range weather forecasts/appreciations/prognosis towards safe and effective Naval operations/evolutions. A recent research on the topic “Needs, Capabilities and Challenges involved with METOC forecasting for Naval operations”, was also undertaken and submitted during NHCC-30. During his tenure at HQFOK/HQKNA, he got the privilege/opportunity to set-up and commission the ‘Naval Met Office’ and the ‘Navy Children School’ at Karwar for which he was commended by the Flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Western Naval Command in 2011. He was further fortunate to get selected as the commissioning HoD crew of Vikramaditya, wherein he also coordinated/supported the DATs/AFC-DATs for the trials & acceptance MetOc equipment. he was privileged as one of the few officers having served onboard all the three air-craft carriers that the country has operated so far. His significant appointments include OIC SNOM (K), Cdr (Met) INS Vikramaditya, Cdr (Met) INS Viraat, Staff Officer (Met & Ed) at HQFOK/HQKNA (Karwar), Deputy Director Naval Oceanology & Meteorology at IHQ MoD(N), Senior MetOc Officer INS Utkrosh, Port Blair and Met Officer INS Dega and INS Rajali. His wife, Cdr Minakshi Sahay (Retd) has also served the Navy till 2013. She is presently occupied (part- time) at “Edu-Brisk” as an Academic administrator and is also a home maker. She is a Post-Graduate who also holds a certification/degree in “Management of Academic Institutions” from Amity University. Her significant naval appointments include Instructor at INS Chilka, SEdO at Naval Shipwright School, Vizag, Recruiting Officer/SO to CO, INS India and Joint Director at Naval Education at IHQ MoD(N). he is blessed with a 13 yrs old son, Master Yash Sahay and a 10 yrs old daughter Ms Aahana Sahay. He has been an ace shooter and was a member and Oi/C Navy Shooting Team (NST) till 2001 and have represented Navy in 02 inter-services & ARA musketry championships at MHOW. He had also participated in the National Shooting championships (Air/Free Rifle (prone) and Free Rifle, 3-positions) and various state shooting championships whilst being a member of NST based at INS Agrani, Coimbatore. His favourite pastime is listening music, karaoke singing and playing Tabla. He also hold a “Sangeet Prabhakar” Degree in Tabla (1987) from Prayaag Sangeet Sameeti, Allahabad. He remain fit by means of healthy diets, regular exercise, brisk walk, gym and yoga.
