Lt Col SK Mahapatro, SM was commissioned into the elite Army Air Defence on 12 June 2004, as part of 114 Regular Course of the prestigious Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. The Officer completed his primary and secondary education from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Berhampur, Odisha. He joined the Indian Military Academy soon after completing his Graduation in Economics (Honours) from Khallikote Autonomous College under Berhampur University, Odisha.
During his tenure with the Army Air Defence, the officer completed the Young Officer’s Course of Army Air Defence, Automated Data Processing (System Analysis & Programmers) Course, Automated Data Processing (Systems) Course, and Junior Command Course. The officer served with his parent unit in High Altitude Areas, Siachen Glacier and in Rajasthan Sector. The officer also had tenure with the elite Rashtriya Rifles Battalion in Counter Insurgency Area. He has been decorated with Sena Medal for gallantry for one of the operations that the officer carried out successfully.
The officer joined the Army Education Corps in January 2013 and completed his Masters in English from Indira Gandhi National Open University and Bachelor of education from The West Bengal University of Teachers' Training, Education Planning and Administration. The officer completed his Young Officer’s Course of Army Educational Corps and the Junior Officer’s Course.
As an Education Officer, he has been posted to various formation HQs and Training Establishment. He has done instructor tenure at the Artillery Centre, Nasik Road and was also posted to an operational formation in Eastern Sector.
The officer is happily married to Mrs Geeta Mahapatro, an educationist herself and blessed with one daughter Akshadha Mahapatro and son Naivedhya Mahapatro who are still studying.
